Anichini is typically Tuscan, widespread in Florence and in Greve in Chianti, Scandicci, San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Impruneta and Lastra a Signa in the Florentine, in Siena, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Poggibonsi in the Siena area, in Terricciola, Ponsacco and Pomarance in Pisa and in Monte Argentario and Isola del Giglio in the Grosseto area, Anico, almost unique, is Emilian, they should derive, directly or through a hypocoristic name from the late Latin name Anicus, a medieval variant of Anicius, the noble name of Gens Anicia, of which we have an example in Anicus Manlius Severinus Boethius (475-524), the famous philosopher, author of the famous De consolatione philophiae, who, as consul of Rome under Theodoric, was imprisoned and sentenced to death in 524.
