Bressan is typical of the Veneto region with strains also in the north of Milan and Turin, Bressani is typical of central and southern Lombardy, but also has a Friulian lineage, Bressanin, decidedly Venetian, typical of Arquà Petrarca in Padua, with a stock also in Campagna Lupia and Venice in the Venetian dialect, Bressanini has a lineage in Scurelle in the Trentino region, and a very small one in the Bergamo area, Bressano, very rare, it would seem from the Cuneo area, should derive, directly or through hypocoristic forms, or from dialectal nicknames originated from bressan, the ethnic of the city of Brescia (Brescia) or directly from the medieval form bressanus, precisely to indicate a Brescian origin, of this use we have an example in 1100: "... Interim Anacleto Mortuo Victor IV. surrogatus est, sed is moxsponte cessit. Conc. Dein 2. Lateran habuit, AC 1139. quo Abaillardus et Arnoldus Bressanus damnati. ... "; we find traces of these surnames in Bergamo in the second half of the 1400s with the writer and poet Ioannes Bressanus Bergomensis (1490-1560).
