Both Tuscan, Carnesecca is rarer than the area of Pontremoli in Lunigiana, Carnesecchi is typical of the province of Florence with stocks also in Livorno, in Ceprano (FR) and in Rome. additions provided by Pierluigi Carnesecchi name presumably of Tuscan origin. The common pancetta in Tuscany is in fact called carnesecca. In particular, a motto was used in Florence: "God increase you in bread, wine and carnesecca." Thus the possibility remains that the Carnesecchi took this name from being sellers or producers of carnesecca or deriving the name from the motto of good wishes applied to them in some circumstance. The surname Carnesecca is widespread throughout Tuscany and also in the Lunigiana area. The surname Carnesecchi seems to me to be limited to the area of Florence and Prato. The Carnesecchi of Florence took this name at the turn of the late 1300s and early 1400s. They were a restricted family group, the sons of three cousins whose grandparents were called Grazino di Durante and Matteo di Durante. This is why Crollalanza says: they said of the Duranti and the Frazzini (this Frazzini must be understood as Grazini). The Florentine Carnesecchi became one of the powerful Florentine oligarchic families and participated in the positions of the republic and the Grand Duchy and maintained importance until the early 1700s. Paolo, Lorenzo, Andrea and Pietro belonged to this family. The Carnesecchi of Prato took this surname in the same period and the name is most probably linked to the trade of the first of them Pasquino di Giovanni di Pasquino grocer. This family became extinct around 1620. In the meantime the surname Carnesecchi had been used by a certain Ulivieri Carnesecchi who appears with such name in a document of 1563 (and in 1584 there was a trial brought by the descendants of Pasquino for usurpation of surname). This alleged usurpation brought luck to the descendants of Ulivieri who appear in the books of the nobility of Prato and Florence, in fact Giuseppe di Sebastiano, already a Florentine nobleman, in 1765 was admitted to the nobility of Prato.
