CONCHEDDA

Conchedda, very rare, would seem typical of Nuoro and Tertenia in Ogliastra. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas CONCHEDDA: from the Latin concha; it has different meanings: a basin of terra cotta or cork which in Campidano they call metzòba, which however derives from mitzòla (a beautiful term, coined in Campidano) which in turn derives from mitza = fonte; sa mitzola is precisely the small basin of cork that was left, generally hanging on the side of the spring, for the travelers who went there to quench their thirst. In Campidano, the term concheddas is used to indicate (see Concas) the knuckles of the fingers, is concheddas de is didus or even the wild thorns = is concheddas de gurèu. Conchèdda is also synonymous with foiled, always distracted, with its head in the clouds. We find the surname Conchèdda in the ancient maps: among the signatories of the Peace of Eleonora of 1388 there are: Conchedda Joanne, jurato (security guard, collaborator of the majore) ville Busache (Busachi - Contracted Partis Varicati); Conchedda Nicolao, jorato Busache villas. It is a rare surname, currently present in 23 Italian Municipalities, of which 7 in Sardinia: Nuoro 24, Tertenia 23, Sassari 6, Sanluri 6, etc.
