Ancient and noble family from the Isle of Malta, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. The two main branches went one to Italy and one to Spain. The one that went to Spain settled in Valencia. Crispo Bárbaro, in his "Nobiliario" of 1883, quotes a Mrs. Carmen Briffa, daughter of E. Briffa and political sister of the baron of Benuarrat. Many family members have distinguished themselves in the Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara and Montesa; others were also part of the Royal Chancery of Valladolid and Granada. The branch of the family that moved to Italy, settled in Sicily. Here, this family, in all ages, always stands out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal and ecclesiastical professions and in the military service.
