Ancient and noble German family from Quedlinburg, of Swiss origin, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. On its origin have been formulated several heraldic hypotheses. The most accepted is the one that sees the family to be the direct descendant of the noble House known as Hennergarten or Hengart, which belonged to the ancient nobility of the "Uradel", a term coined only in modern times, in reference to noble families whose ancestral lineage can be traced back to before the Middle Ages. This House settled in Laufenburg area, nowadays known as Henggart, a municipality in the district of Andelfingen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland and had the title of Lord of Hengart. Hans Hindergarthe, former mayor of Quedlinburg and George Hindergarten of Bobenhausen, very close to Helpershain. His sons grew up in Helpershain. One of this, called Velten was father of Barthell, in turn father of Heinrich (1677-1757) who married Anna Gemmer of Helpershain and had Johannes Jost Huhnergarth (1707-1787). Johannes Jost married Gertrude Arthe and had Johannes Huhnergarth (1745-1825), in turn father of Johan Adam Huhnergarth (1771-abt. 1851). Kornard Huhnergarth, son of Johan and Anna Steuernagel, married Sophia Darlinger of Cservakovka, Russia, and had Johann Michael Huenergardt, in turn father of Friedrich Huenergardt (1841-1923). This Friedrich was father of John F. Huenergardt (1875–1955) who as a child migrated with his parents to America, becoming later one of the pioneers of the Southeastern-European Adventism, a Seventh-day Adventist minister, teacher and administrator. Family names so old, without any doubt, honor not only the families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious persons.
