Among the ancient families that contributed to the history of Silesia, the Schaubert lineage occupies a distinguished place, both for its contribution to Prussian public life in the nineteenth century and for its long intellectual and religious tradition, documented as early as the fourteenth century. The surname Schaubert represents a "mitteldeutsch" (Central German) variant of the name Schubert, and its presence in German territories dates back to the Middle Ages: a Taugvitzius Schaubert is recorded as early as 1349 in Merseburg, while in the sixteenth century appear Johann Schaubert, pastor in Bischofsheim in 1557, and Kaspar Schaubert, Stallmeister (stable master) and poet in 1572. These early attestations reveal a cultivated and socially active family, rooted in the central regions of the Empire and destined, in later centuries, to integrate fully into the Prussian aristocracy. The branch that received official ennoblement belonged to the Silesian line of the family.
