The Arces family, of very noble Spanish origin, then took up permanent residence in the city of Messina, where it enjoyed recognized nobility through the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. In the Mastra Nobile drawn up by Mollica, a Giovanni is found written down, registered in the X list of the year 1596. The same family was also ascribed to the noble Archconfraternity of Peace and White People of the above-mentioned city. An excellent representative of the lineage, Matteo, had the dignity of captain in arms and, in the year 1646, he acquired some tandas from the Royal Court, together with a baronial title. He was succeeded by his daughter Vittoria, who married a member of the Prestigiovanni family, giving birth to a single heir, Valentina Prestigiovanni and Arces, to whom the aforesaid title of baron was conferred as a dowry.
