Numerous authors of the family described events and characters and attributed various origins to it without any valid attestation. Modern historical criticism has, on the safe basis of documents, accounted for the artificial genealogical reconstructions of those writers who, out of a complacent spirit of flattery, claimed that this family descended from noble and ancient prosapias like that of other families.
