The Capurso are the descendants of the powerful Counts of Marsi and took their name from the fiefdom they had in lordship. Capurso, in fact, is a land in the province of Bari, located on the plain, with ancient walls and the baronial palace built like a castle. The fief of Capurso belonged until 1277 to the D'Aponte lineage, originating from the Counts of Marsi. A branch of this House, which took direct control of the administration of its fiefdom of Capurso, ended up being called with this name in about 1282.
