Famiglia ammessa alle prime cariche pubbliche della città di Fivizzano fino dal secolo XVI e che aggiunse il cognome Trombetti, per il matrimonio di Gio. Battista con Maria Rosa, ultima discendente di quella nobile famiglia sarzanese. Fu ascritta alla Nobiltà di Pontremoli (maschi e femmine) con Decreto 14 febbraio 1782. Raffaele Carlo e Gameliele Armando di Giovan Battista di Niccolò e discendenti. Dagli archivi di stato di Firenze riportiamo "Famiglia di Fivizzano. Nell'esemplare presentato alla Deputazione sulla Nobiltà e Cittadinanza appare tra la mano e il monogramma di Cristo il motto: INO//IE (In nomine). Il doppio cognome è dovuto all'unione delle due famiglie dopo il matrimonio fra Giovanni Battista Agostini e Maria Rosa Trombetti nel 1699."
La bibliografia di questa famiglia viene menzionata dal Marchese Vittorio Spreti, nella sua Enciclopedia Storico-Nobiliare Italiana stampato in Milano nel 1936.
