Linaje originario de Francia que pasó a España, siendo el primer caballero de quien se tiene noticia Bernardo B., que vino con gente de su país a la conquista de Valencia. El rey encargó a este caballero y a don Guillermo de Montcada que estuviesen a la vista de la Puebla Vieja (arrabal de la ciudad). Cumplieron el encargo real, y el monarca, agradecido, los heredó en la ciudad. Pariente de Bernardo de V. fue Juan de B., natural del lugar de Cubells, del partido judicial de Balaguer (Lérida), que fue donde primeramente hicieron asiento los de este linaje. Dicho caballero sirvió también al monarca de Aragón en la guerra de los rebeldes de Orihuela y Murcia, y en esta ciudad fue el primero que escaló las murallas y clavó el estandarte real. En la ciudad de Alicante radicó más tarde otra rama, a la que perteneció Pedro B., varón de grandes fuerzas. Floreció en tiempos de Fernando "el Católico", y este rey, para probar sus fuerzas, luchó con Pedro de B., el cual en la primera parte de la lucha, le sentó en el suelo; luego lo llevó en peso a una ventana. Después de terminada la lucha, tomó dos tinajas llenas de agua, una en cada mano, y con ellas hizo lo que antiguamente se llamaba aguamanos.
