Antica famiglia, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, proveniente da un castello feudale, posto nel comune di Fronticella, presso Galeata (Romagna Toscana), da cui trasse il proprio nome. Il casato, venuto ad abitare in Forlì, nel 1774, ottenne, nel 1789, la cittadinanza nobile forlivese. Questa nobile famiglia, la quale ebbe notevolissimi personaggi, che fecero parte della magistratura comunale, senza dubbio alcuno, è una delle famiglie più ragguardevoli di Forlì, essendosi imparentata con nobili famiglie dell'Emilia, ed ebbe palazzo proprio in città e possedimenti nel Comune. Per ragioni matrimoniali, ereditò i beni ed il titolo dei conti Baldelli di Cortona ed associò così, al proprio, il cognome Baldelli.
