Noble familia inglesa, cuyo origen se remonta al año de 1066, fundada por el conquistador Roberto de Bourke, compañero del Rey Guillermo y tronco de los Marqueses y Condes de Clarincarde y de los Condes de Mayo, Pares del Reino Unido. En el reinado de Enrique III, ilustró esta familia con sus hazañas Huberto de Burgh, Conde de Kent, Justicia Mayor de Inglaterra, que casó en cuartas nupcias con doña Margarita, hija de Guillermo, Rey de Escocia. Juan de B., hermano menor de Wilick de Bourke, tronco de los Marqueses de Clarincarde, fué en 1400 Gobernador del Conado de Gallwey, cuyo nombre tomó por apellido así como sus hijos. Por sus servicios fué creado Duque de Clarence y Lord Teniente de Irlanda con el nombre de Sir Juan de G. Una rama de esta casa de G. siguió al Rey Jacobo II en su destierro a Francia, donde obtuvo carta de nobleza de Luis XVI, con el título de Conde Gallwey. Fué el primer Conde Enrique Jaime de G., Caballero de la Orden de San Luis y Capitán del Regimiento de Walths. Murió a la entrada del Castillo de Turbilly. Había casado en 5 de Febrero de 1817, con Mlle. Virginia Lucé y fueron padres de Eduardo de G., segundo Conde de G., y de María G. A esta misma familia perteneció Juan Florencio de G., nacido en Lisboa el 26 de Octubre de 1791, que casó en el puerto de la Orotava con doña Bernarda Fleming y Fallón, de noble familia Canaria. Murió dicho Caballero en el Puerto de la Cruz, el 21 de mayo de 1831. ...
