Antica ed assai nobile famiglia di Mirandola, le cui prime notizie storiche certe si rinvengono nei libri parrocchiali di Cividale, villa suburbana della Mirandola, nella seconda decade del secolo XVI. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata, tramite forme ipocoristiche, nel nome medioevale, "Ghiro, Ghironis", appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite.
