Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Regno di Napoli, originaria di Amalfi ma passata a risiedere in Napoli, ove fu ascritta al Seggio di Nilo, poi Nido, detta Iodice, Jodice o dello Iodice, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel fatto che un, oggi ignoto, capostipite abbia avuto la responsabilità di "giudice" (N.B. un tempo i giudici non solo si occupavano di amministrare la giustizia, ma anche di gestire amministrativamente un territorio). Un Claudio Iodice, barone di Molinara e della Riccia, andò, in qualità di Capitano, con Carlo, duca di Calabria, in Toscana, e, pertanto, il di lui figlio Ferrante, venne creato, dal detto duca, Maestro Stazionario di toscana. D'altronde, questa famiglia produsse una serie di uomini, che resero illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi e nel servizio militare. Il casato venne dichiarato ammissibile nelle Regie Guardie del Corpo nel 1835; parteciparono alla campagna del 1860/61 per la difesa del Regno delle Due Sicilie: Andrea, 1° tenente della "Gendarmeria Reale a Cavallo"; Aniello, 1° tenente del "4° Battaglione Cacciatori"; Ferdinando, alfiere (sottotenente) del "13° Reggimento Fanteria di Linea Lucania"; Luciano, 1° tenente del "12° Reggimento Fanteria di Linea Messina"; Raffaele, maggiore del "9° Battaglione Cacciatori", che fu decorato della Croce Ufficiale di San Giorgio per i combattimenti in Sicilia, ferito sul Volturno nella battaglia del 1° ottobre, decorato al merito con la Croce dell'Ordine di Ferdinando I; Eugenio, senatore del Regno, commendatore dell'Ordine dei SS.
