Família italiana, natural de Génova, da qual passaram à ilha da Madeira, dois irmãos, Urbano L. e Baptista L.. Urbano L. fixou-se na vila de Santa Cruz, onde aumentou muito a sua fazenda. Possuía engenhos e navios, trazendo seu irmão no negócio que fazia. Edificou na mesma vila em 1518, com sua mulher, o mosteiro de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, de frades franciscanos, o qual ornou com muita grandeza. Foi casado com Joana Lopes, filha de Isabel Correia e de seu marido, naturais da freguesia de Santana. Urbano L. instituiu com sua mulher um vínculo, ao qual esta e sua mãe uniram o seus bens, também vinculados. Por não ter filhos Urbano L. nomeou admistrador do vínculo seu sobrinho Jorge L., filho do irmão. Sepultou-se na igreja paroquial da vila, sendo, por ordem de sua mulher, os seus ossos trasladados para a capela-mor da igreja do mosteiro que fundaram, para túmulo de jaspe, junto do altar, da parte do Evangelho, com suas armas. Sua mulher e sogra jazem em uma capela que propositadamente fizeram no dito mosteiro. Baptista L. vicia na ilha da Madeira, pelos anos de 1476, e sabe-se que deixou por filho legítimo a Jorge L., que teve o foro de fidalgo-cavaleiro em 1515, esteve na tomada de Azamor, sucedeu nos vínculos instituídos por seu tio Urbano, mulher e sogra, foi padroeiro do mosteiro de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, fundado pelo mesmo tio, e morreu a 9 de Dezembro de 1548, jazendo na capela-mor da mesma igreja.
