Las armas que Juan Baños de Velasco asigna a este apellido, acusan que debe ser una modalidad del linaje Marchao, que originario de la Provenza (Francia), pasó a Aragón y a Portugal, pues esas armas son iguales a las que usaron los Marchao aragoneses. Los M. se extendieron por la provincia de Colchagua (Chile), y de ellos fué Sebastián M., Sargento y dueño de las estancias Quilón Ranquilgüe, que otorgó poder para testar al Alférez Juan de Orrego Faria, el 1º de Octubre de 1639. Nueve años antes había casado con doña Ana Gutiérrez de Quintanilla (hija de Juan de Porras y de doña Juana Gutiérrez de Quintanilla). Dicho caballero fué Cofrade en la Vera Cruz, y en unión de su esopsa recibió sepultura en San Juan Autista de Chimbarongo. Dejaron estos hijos: Sebatián M. y Porras, llamado también Sebastián M. de Aldana, sin sucesión, que fué Capitán de Caballos en Melipilla, por el Cabildo de Santiago, en 1658, y Benefactor del convento de la Merced de Chimbarongo; Diego M. y Porras, Capitán y Albacea de su madre; Isabel M. y Porras, llamada también Isabel Rodríguez, mujer de Bernabé García Saso; y Juana M. y Porras, o Juana Gutiérrez de Quintanilla, esposa de Juan de Soto. Juan M. fué vecino del Reguelemo y compró la hacienda Nigüe-Nigüe, en 1718. José Andrés M. y doña Antonia de Morales, fueron vecinos de Mallorca y padres de Lorenza M. y Morales, fallecida en 1716.
