Nobility crown MendoçaConta-se entre as mais ilustres e antigas famílias da Espanha a dos Mendonças, por vir dos senhores de Biscaia. D. Iñigo Lopes, sexto senhor soberano de Biscaia, de Durango e de Nájera, desde o ano de 1025 até o de 1076, contraiu matrimónio com D. Toda Ortiz, filha herdeira de D. Ortiz Sanches, senhor de Nájer, alferes-mor de Navarra, de quem teve por filho segundo a D. sancho Iñigues, que morreu am 1070 vivendo seu pai, e se casou com D. Teresa, deles nascendo D. Lopo Sanches. Este D. Lopo Sanches teve o senhorio de Alaba e do Vale de Lodio, confirmou privilégios nos anos de 1081 e 1101 e no de 1094. Casou com sua prima D. Sancha Dias de Frias, filha de D. Diogo Lopes, oitavo senhor soberano de Biscaia que era neto paterno de D. Iñigo Lopes, acima referido, e teve D. Iñigo Lopes, senhor de Lodio e M., pelo que tomou o apelido de M. como consta de documento do ano de 1164, senhor de Tade em 1189, ano em que morreu. Em 1184 doou o lugar de Pedra Longa o mosterio de Uvarenes. Foi casado com D. Teresa Ximenes, filha de D. Ximeno Iñigues, rico-homem, senhor de Cameras, e de sua mulher D. Maria Gonçalves de Lara, nacendo deste matrimónio vários filhos que usaram o apelido de M. e, entre eles, D. Diogo Lopes de M., quarto senhor de Lodio, Laiterim e M., rico homem, casado com D. Leonor Furtado, senhora de Mendobil, filha de Fernão Peres de Lara chamado o Furtado, meio irmão de D. Afonso VII, rei de Castela, chamado Imperador, por sua mãe. ...
