L'imperatore Massimiliano con diploma 28 novembre 1575 elevò Pietro Montalbano ed i suoi discendenti in ordine di primogenitura al grado di Conte del Sacro Palazzo Lateranense ed i fratelli Marco e Nicolò, con diploma 15 luglio 1628 dell'imperatore Ferdinando II vennero creati Marchesi nel circolo della Franconia Orientale. I Montalbano ebbero pure parte del feudo comitale di Prata, per acquisto dai Florido. Girolamo, con ducale veneta 28 settembre 1767 ebbe il titolo di conte e fu iscritto nell'A. L. T. Nicolò, Antonio, Girolamo ed Andrea di Girolamo ottennero la conferma della nobiltà e del titolo comitale con S. R. A. 24 luglio 1820 e 9 maggio 1829. Altro ramo.
