Nobility crown Motier De La FayetteCette famille, qui est du rameau des premiers comtes de Motier, est originaire d'Auvergne. Elle compte au nombre de ses membres les seigneurs de Saint-Romain, les barons de Vissac de Pontgibaud et de Hautefeuille, les seigneurs de Chavagnac, du Vieux-Marché et du Pont-Blanc (paroisse de Plouaret). Elle a fourni plusieurs personnages dignes de mémoire dont on signale: Gilbert, maréchal de France, mort en 1463; son troisième fils Gilbert IV, fut écuyer des rois Louis XI et Charles VIII et épousa en 1473, Isabeau de Polignac, à la suite d'aventures des plus romanesques, relatées par Chabron. De cette union deux fils: Antoine et François. Ce dernier forma la branche de St-Romain, éteinte en 1577, et Antoine fut l'ancêtre du comte de la Fayette, mari de l'auteur de "La Princesse de Clèves". Cette branche s'est éteinte avec Madeleine mariée le 13 avril 1706 au duc de la Trémoille et de Thouars, prince de Tarente, pair de France, morte sans enfants, laquelle légua, en 1717, le marquisat de La Fayette à Jean Roch de Motier de Champetières, oncle du célèbre général, représentant de la branche des seigneurs de Champetières. On trouve aussi sous ce nom: deux prieures de Saint-Georges de Plougasnou, puis abbesses de Saint-Georges de Rennes de 1617 à 1693; un abbé de Saint-Aubin des Bois en 1683, et le célèbre marquis, signataire des protestantions de la noblesse de Bretagne, en 1788, lieutenant-général en 1791, mort en 1834, fils de Marie-Louise de la Riviére, dame du Vieux-Marché et de Saint-Quiouët. ...
