La casa solariega de este apellido, según Pedro Lezcano, estaba en la jurisdicción de la villa de Oñate (Guipúzcoa) y sus poseedores eran descendientes de don Lope Díaz de Haro, onceno Señor de Vizcaya. Otros testimonios autorizados y diversos documentos, confirman que el solar de N. radicó desde muy antiguo en Oñate. El Bachiler en Leyes Martín Ibáñez N., Pero Belza N., otro Pero y su hijo Pedro, eran vecinos de la villa de Oñate en 1461. Así consta en el "Ensayo de un Padrón Histórico de Guipúzcoa", de Juan Carlos de Guerra. Ese mismo Padrón contiene la siguiente genealogía: Pedro Belza N. (que vivió en el primer tercio del siglo XV), fué Señor de la casa solar de N. en Oñate y casó con doña María de Irazábal, naciendo de este enlace Cristóbal Pérez de N., que sucedió a su padre y contrajo matrimonio con doña Ossana de San Llorente y fueron padres de Juan de N. y San Llorente, llamado también Juan de Oñate, primer Adelantado de las provincias de Nueva México, conquistador, Gobernador y Capitán General del Nuevo Reino de Galicia y uno de los cuatro fundadores de la ciudad de Zacatecas, donde fué tanta su grandeza, que tenía una campana que a diario se tañía para llamar a cuantas personas quisieron ir a comer a su mesa. Casó con doña Inés Cortés, hija de Juanes de Tolosa y de doña Leonor Cortés y nieta del célebre Hernán Cortés y de doña Isabel de Moctezuma, la cual, a su vez, era hija del último Emperador de México. ...
