Muy antiguo linaje navarro, originario del lugar de Olleta (cuyo nombre tomó), del Ayuntamiento de Leoz y partido de Tafalla. Esta casa es una de las doce primeras que aparecen en Navarra. Sus caballeros fueron frecuentemente honrados con la Ricahombría y figuran ejerciendo, desde la perpetuación de los apellidos, los primeros cargos de aquel Reino, con tenencias de sus principales plazas. Así consta en numerosos documentos que se conservan, muchos citados por el P. Moret en sus "Anales de Navarra". El progenitor de los Señores de Olleta y primero de este apellido, del que se tiene noticia, fué Pedro Jiménez de O., Señor de Milagro y Ricohombre en el reinado de don Sancho el Fuerte, a quien acompañó en la batalla de las Navas de Tolosa. Es uno de los Barones que confirman el contrato de mutua adopción hecho por los Reyes don Sancho el Fuerte y don Jaime I el Conquistador. Le sucedió Martín Pérez de O., Señor de Olleta y Ricohombre de Navarra, que asistío a la Cruzada con Teobaldo I. Fué padre de Juan Martínez de O., que sigue, y Beatriz de O., que casó con Guillermo Arnoldo de Sault, segundo del nombre, Señor de Irumberry. Con sucesión. Juan Martínez de O. fué Señor de Olleta y Ricohombre. Se conserva su firma y sello en un documento referente a la donación de Varillas por don Pedro, Obispo de Tarazona.. Lo heredó Pedro Martínez de O., segundo del nombre, Señor de Olleta y Erdozain y Ricohombre de Navarra, del que fué sucesor Juan de O., Señor de Olleta y Ricohombre. ...
