Questo possesso fu confermato nel 1355 ai discendenti del primo investito dall'Imperat. Carlo IV, il quale creò pure conti palatini, e li protesse così efficacemente che pervennero a ricuperare l'assoluta padronanza del loro feudo. Il Granduca Cosimo I de' Medici li consolidò in tutti i loro privilegi, affrancandoli da ogni soggezione ed omaggio per la contea d'Elci, che rimase affatto separata dalla provincia di Siena.
