Noble linaje irlandés con líneas en España. El nombre de P. es antiguo, suponiéndose que sea el mismo que aparece escrito P., en Holinshed, lista de nombre del rollo (o volumen) de la Abadía Batell. Fuller, citado en Holinshed, lo escribe Prender le Gast. Cuando los normandos invadieron Gales, un Barón de este nombre fundó el castillo o fortaleza y plaza de Prendergast en Pembrokeshire, aún existente. Mauricio de P., acompañado del primer normando, invadió Irlanda y obtuvo grandes concesiones de tierras en el sur de aquél reino donde fundó Newcastle P. Fueron sus descendientes: Tomás P., Esquire de Newcastle en el condado de Tipperary. Nació en 1614, casó con Leonor (hermana de Gualterio, onceavo Conde de Ormond) y procrearon a: Jaime, Jeffrey y Tomás. Murió en 1725, de ciento once años de edad, como aparece en su lápida (o piedra sepulcral) en Newcastle, cerca de Conmell. Su hijo Tomás P., Esquire, Coronel en el Ejército de Guillermo III y de la Reina Ana, descubrió una conspiración contra la vida del Rey, siendo recompensado con una Baronía y el Estado de Gort, en el Condado de Galway confiscado a Roger O'Shagnessy. Sir Tomás casó con Penelope (única hija del primer Conde de Cadogan), fué muerto en la batalla de Malplaquet en 1709 y dejó estos descendientes: Tomás, que le heredó; Juliana, Lady Meath, que murió sin sucesión; Ana, casada con Samuel Pobson, Esquire; Isabel, que casó primero con Sir J.
