Nobility crown QuadraApellido vasco. Del barrio de su nombre, ayuntamiento de Musques, partido judicial de Valmaseda en Vizcaya. Afirma, entre otros tratadistas, el Padre Tomás de Llano, que el primero en adoptar este apellido fue un hijo de Ordoño Zamudio, que se llamó Iñigo Ordóñez de la Cuadra y sirvió al Rey Don Fernando I el Católico, a quien salvó la vida en Barcelona, cuando el Monarca fue agredito por un labrador llamado Cañamás. Los Cuadro entroncaron con la familia Salcedo, por lo que se apellidan Quadra-Salcedo. Este linaje se dividió en varias ramas, pasando una de ellas e Chile y otras a Durango y a Sevilla. Probó su nobleza en las Ordenes Militares. Don Felipe V creó Marqués de Villarias, en 22 de marzo de 1739, a Don Sebastián de la Cuadra. Escudo cuartelado: primero, en campo de gules, tres fajas de oro, y bordura de plata, con cuatro cruces de oro (contra las leyes heráldicas); segundo, en campo de plata, un roble de sinople y dos lobos de sable, pasantes, al pie del tronco, y bordura de oro con ocho aspas de azur; tercero, en campo de gules una banda de oro, engolada en cabezas de dragones de sinople, y cuarto, cuartelado: primero y cuarto, de plata, con un jabalí al natural, rampante, y segundo y tercero de plata, con tres estrellas de oro, bien ordenadas.
