La cadette a possédé la seigneurie de Mezel, après avoir suivi en Basse-Auvergne, comme notaires et baillis, les de Langeac signeurs de Dallet et de Mezel. Cette branche a produit: un échevin de Clermont, receveur des décimes (1624); un conseiller à la cour des aides de Montferrand (1639-1660); un conseiller au présidial de Clermont (1689) et s'est éteinte dans les Rechignat, seigneurs de Marands. L'ainée, restée à Langeac, tenait un rang distingué dans cette ville où elle était représentée au XVIIème siècle par plusieurs conseillers du roi, juges royaux de la prévôté de Langeac, l'un d'eux, Benoit Redon, acquit de Marguerite de Fillère, dame du Charrouil, épouse de Jean de Chastel de Servières, la terre et seigneurie de Tailhac, par actes des 30 novembre 1763 et 10 janvier 1764. La distinction familiale représentée ici sous forme de blason, survit à travers les siècles grâce à des précieux témoignages qui nous ont permis de rapporter les exploits et les gestes de cette famille.
