Este apellido catalán, muy difundido en aquella región, tuvo casas en la ciudad de Lérida, en la de Cervera, perteneciente a la provincia de Lérida, y en la villa de Cardona, del partido judicial de Berga y provincia de Barcelona. Pasó a Valencia, Murcia y Mallorca. Es muy antiguo. Mosén Jaime Febrer menciona en sus Trovas al caballero catalán Guillermo de R., que acudió a combatir contra los moros rebeldes que en Murcia se habían levantado contra el rey de Castilla don Alfonso X "el Sabio", llevando a gente muy lucida a sus expensas.
