Nobility crown RocoNoble linaje extremeño, en torno del cual mantuvo viva durante dilatadas generaciones una muy antigua tradición, la creencia de que procedía de la gran casa de los Condes de Urgel. Investigaciones modernas comprobaron que la tradición tenía sólido fundamento. Lo confirma un documento de la Colección Salazar y Castro, existente en la Biblioteca de la Academia de la Historia, dado a la luz por don Antonio del Solar Taboada y el señor Marqués de Ciadoncha, en su notabilísimo estudio "Juan Martín R., Señor de Campofrío", y el "Memorial de los Roco", impreso en 1602 por Pedro R. Campofrío, que también se guarda en la Biblioteca de dicha Academia. Una rama extremeña de este linaje se apellidó R. de Villagutiérrez durante varias generaciones. Radicó y tuvo casa muy principal en la villa de Valencia de Alcántara (Cáceres). Otra se estableció en Ciudad Rodrigo, pasando luego a Sevilla y Granada. Y otra creó en Chile la familia R., de notorio relieve en aquel país. El Conde Armengol de Barbastro y su mujer Clemencia procrearon a Guillermo R., marido de la Vizcondesa doña Blanca, padres de Vidal R., que pasó a Castilla con su primo hermano Armengol, Conde de Urgel. Casó con doña Elía Rodríguez, hija de Pedro Rodríguez de Guzmán, naciendo de esta unión Artal R., que en su mujer, doña Elvira Gómez de Manzanedo, tuvo este hijo Bernal R., primero que aparece así apellidado. Fué Gobernador de Asturias y Ricohombre de pendón y caldera. ...
