I più antichi personaggi, che si conoscono, di questa famiglia, sono: un sacerdote Lanfranco che, nel 1052, fece donazione di un terreno in S. Tommaso della Fossa (Prov. di Reggio E.) al celebre monastero benedettino di S. Prospero; e così pure fecero Alberto ed Ugizio, fratelli da Fontanella Gualdrata Giugali fecero anch'essi donazione al detto monastero di una chiesetta nella stessa Villa di S. Tommaso della Fossa. Armanno, vivente nel 1155 fu procuratore del monastero di S. Pietro. Raimondo viveva nel 1155 in Villa S. Prospero de' Strinati, Comune di Reggio E. Felicita, badessa al monastero del Fontanellis (poi di S. Chiara) fondò nel 1186 la chiesa di S. Nicolò in Reggio Emilia. Queste le più antiche notizie che si hanno di questa famiglia. Dal sec.
