Antica ed illustre famiglia del Regno di Napoli, anticamente detta Sirignano, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Tal casato, al dir di illustri genealogisti, sarebbe, però, oriundo dalla Catalogna. La tradizione, infatti, vuole che il primo, di cotal stirpe, a passare in Sicilia, fu un certo Pietro, catalano, il quale, nell'anno 1580, fu uno dei deputati per la fabbrica della chiesa di Santa Eulalia, sita in Palermo.
