De la investigación realizada en el Archivo General de la Compañía de Indias en Sevilla, extraemos la siguiente información: Juan Martínez de S. natural de Vallenado, hijo de Miguel Martínez y de Beatriz de León fue nombrado Secretario del Adelantado por decreto de la Real Compañía de Indias en abril de 1578 y embarcó hacia Perú el 9 enero 1579; en otro legajo del mismo archivo figura que dimitió del cargo a los catorce años de ocuparlo, compró una hacienda y acumuló gran fortuna, murió a los 69 años víctima de unas extrañas fiebres, legó sus propiedades a los domínicos y repartió el dinero a sus tres hijos reconocidos, por lo que suponemos que fué uno de los iniciadores de esta saga familia en América.
