Las noticias que tenemos del apellido Sillero acusan que es una variante española del de S., en los Países Bajos, donde ya florecía por los años de 1351 una familia patricia de Cambray así apellidada. En aquellas tiempos era Teniente de Gobernador de San Quintín Simón de S., que casó con doña Agueda Vudart y procrearon a otro Simón y Guy S.. En 1422, Juan S. desempeñaba en Cambray el cargo de Gran Preboste, que equivalía al de Juez ordinario de la casa del Monarca, conociendo de todos los asuntos civiles y criminales, y en 1440 tenía el mismo empleo Enrique de S. Doña Beatriz de S., hija de Gilles S. y nieta de Guillermo S., casó con Juan Cretón, escribano de Cambray (hijo de Juan Cretón, Consejero y Tesorero del Concde de Liney) y de ese enlace nació Juan Cretón de S., bautizado en la Abadía de San Alberto en 1454. Ramas de esa familia pasaron a Inglaterra, Francia y España. La que se estableció en España perdura en el primer tercio del pasado siglo, y castellanizó el apellido convirtiéndolo en el de Sillero. De esta ama española fué Cristóbal de Sillero, caballero notorio y marido de doña Antonia Serrano, de quien tuvo a Cristóbal de Sillero y Serrano, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Juana González Berrocal, naciendo de este enlace Juan de Sillero Berrocal, que casó con doña Josefa Muñoz de Arjona y fueron padres de Juan de Sillero Muñoz, que probó su hidalguía en el año 1769.
