Pons, prieur de Randans en Forez, vivant en 1121, eut pour neveu: Guy, sénéchal de l'église de Lyon (1177). Filiation suivie depuis: Hugues, chevalier croisé, qui prit part au siège d'Acre en 1191. Deux branches: I° seigneurs de la Grange, de Noailly, de la Ferrière, etc. éteints au XVIème siècle dans les de Monteynard; 2° seigneurs de Chalmazel, comtes de Chamarande et marquis de Talaru, etc. éteints en 1850. Claude, baron d'Escotay, chevalier de l'orde du Roi et guidon de la Chevaleire des gendarmes du duc de Nemours, ayant épousé le 3 octobre 1592 Péronelle de Callard-Fressonet dame du Mezenc, fille d'Antoine seigneur de la Faye et baron du Mezenc et de Jeanne de la Fayette, devint par cette alliance un des grands seigneurs du Velay. Vingt et un chanoines-comtes de Lyon, parmi lesquels trois archevêques de ce diocèse, dont deux cardinaux (1389-1440); des chevaliers bannerets et des ordres du roi: des abbesses de divers monastères du Velay; de nombreux chevaliers et commandeurs de Malte; un lieutenant-général des armées du roi (1780); plusieurs colonels; des chevaliers de St-Louis, du St-Esprit et de la Toison d'or; un ministre d'Etat du roi Charles X, ambassadeur en Espagne, etc., etc. Grandes alliances. ...
