La nobiltà della famiglia Upacini, proviene dal titolo di nobiltà ereditaria lucchese, concesso il 27 ott. 1849 dal Granduca di Toscana, Leopoldo II di Lorena, al celebre maestro compositore Giovanni Vincenzo Benedetto Upacini, di Luigi e Isabella Paulillo (n. Catania l'11 febbraio 1796 dec. a Pescia 6 dicembre 1867). Lo stesso fu cavaliere della Aurata Milizia, poi Ordine di S.Silvestro; decorato della Croce di S. Ludovico di seconda classe per merito civile; commendatore dell'ordine di S. Stefano e maggiore dei RR. Cacciatori Volontari di Costa. Fu direttore della Cappella Musicale di Lucca durante il Ducato Borbonico, e poi direttore degli Istituti Musicali di Firenze.
