Hay repetida mención de los M. en la historia de Navarra. Juan Martínez de M. fué Alcaide del castillo de Corella; otro caballero del mismo nombre, Alcaide de Viana, y otro, Alcaide de Castillo de Braza. Juan Martínez de M. y Alvar Díaz de M. fueron encargados en 1330, por el Rey don Felipe III de Navarra, llamado el Noble, esposo de la Reina doña Juana II, para hacer el fuero. Una casa navarra, de M. radicó en la villa de Luquin, del partido judicial de Estella, y de ella procedió Juan de M., que en 1738 fué autorizado por los Tribunales de Navarra para usar el escudo de armas de sus mayores, que luego describeremos. En 1773, Ambrosio de M., primo del Juan anteriormente citado, y vecino de Puente la Reina, fué también reconocido como noble, por descender de la casa de Luquin. En la ciudad de Tudela hubo otra casa de M., con rama en Agreda (Soria), y de ella fueron los hermanos Nicolás, Ana y Ramona de M. y López de Quintana, declarados nobles en 1775. También procede de Navarra la noble familia apellidada Vélaz de M., a la que se incorporó por entronque, el título de Marqués de la Lapilla, que luego, por falta de sucesión, pasó a la casa de Barrón, después a la de Sámano, más tarde a las de Gazeta, Centurión y Fivaller, y, por último, a la de Martorell. Una rama de los Vélaz de M. pasó a Álava y de ella fué Antonio Vélaz de M. y Altamirano, bautizado en Labastida y Caballero de Santiago en 1656. ...
