El célebre cronista Esteban de Garibay y Z., descendiente de la casa de Z., sita en la villa de Mondragón, del partido de Vergara (Guipúzcoa), dice, ocupándose de ella: "En escrituras antiguas anteriores al año 1430, hay clara memoria de Fernán Pérez de Z., vecino de esta villa (la de Mondragón), hijo de Pero Ibáñez de Z., señor de esta misma casa en los tiempos del Rey don Juan el segundo y de su padre el Rey don Enrique el tercero.
