El linaje de este noble apellido de orígen aragonés, extendido por la Península. Alonso de Z., uno de los cinco capitanes de la conquista de Canaria, al mando del General Juan Rejón, era natural de la Villa de Yebra, junto a Almonacid de Z. en el Arzobispado de Toledo, Noble Hijodalgo notorio de Casa y Solar conocido, cuyos antepasados disfrutaron siempre de los privilegios de la Nobleza. Contrajo matrimonio con Doña María Fernández Calva de Z., su prima, fueron padres de Doña Catalina Fernández de Z., bautizada el 27 de enero de 1507, en la iglesia parroquial de San Juan de Telde. Esta apellido se estableció de forma particular en Santa Cruz de Tenerife y a él perteneció Don Víctor Z., fundador y director del Diario "La Tarde", excelente periodista y gran defensor de los valores tinerfeños. Con el descubrimiento del Nuevo Mundo fueron muchos los hombres y mujeres que cruzaron el Atlántico en busca de nuevos horizontes y en concreto los que portando el apellido Zurita, extendieron su linaje por América.
