Carlo-Alberto, King of Sardinia, with patent letters Oct. 13, 1838, granted to Cav. Antonio Franzini the title of transmissible count by male birthright, and with other patent letters Dec. 19, 1846 granted the same the right to dispose, by deed between the living and of the last will, of the title comital in favor of his brother Senator Pietro Franzini and the male descendants of this by order of birthright. Various homonymous families spread to different regions of Italy. The bibliographic information that is handed down to us can be traced back to this lineage of which we have taken note. Another very important branch we find it originating in the Bergamasco since 1200 in which, from ancient writings, the family appears to have obtained the nobility. In fact, the presence of the motto and the weapon in the documented bibliography of the family confirms the ancestral nobility of the family. The origin of the motto dates back to around the fourteenth century and must be sought in those witty sayings that were written on the banners or flags of the knights, displayed on the windows of the inns where they stayed, during the tournaments, and during the tournaments themselves. The motto was a thought expressed in a few words, alluding to a clear or hidden feeling, to a quality, to a historical memory, as a stimulus to courage or honor. It was chosen by the head of the family, by the knight entering the race or given by the sovereign to his loyal man. Family motto: Bene docet.
