The illustrious and lamented historian of the Real Academia de Espana, Fr Francisco Fernandez de Bèthencourt, defines the family: "Una de las màs ilustres y famosas de Espana y cuya historia es la misma de nuestra glorosa Reconquista". It derives its most ancient origin from the patriciate of the Goths of Spain, as is attested by all the most reputed historians and genealogists. To which authorities we must add the documentation of the numerous diplomas and noble concessions; the executioners of nobility; evidence at the Military Orders of Malta, Santiago, Calatrava and Alacantara; feudal and feudal acts; the marriage chapters; the successor and state documents, existing in the archives of Spain, Naples and the family. In fact, it is known that in the time of Roderick, the last king of the Visigoths, Spain was invaded by the Arabs and that large numbers of men and bishops took refuge in the mountains of Asturia, electing king Don Pelayo, descendant of the ancient Gothic rulers. Here the surnames, especially those of the optimized, remained uncorrupted, being able, consequently, to boast an antiquity that is impossible to find among the noble families of other countries. It is also known that the Reconquest began with the legendary defeat that Pelayo inflicted on the Moors in the battle of the Cueva di Covadonga (718). Other news, of this family, are reported in the roll of honor of the noble families V. Spreti. Family motto: Asì Machuca, which means: "So maciulla".
