Ancienne et illustre famille des Pouilles, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Selon ce qui nous est transmis, il a des origines communes avec la noble famille abbée de Sicile, dont le nom, selon Mugnos, dérive du chevalier romain Papyrus, qui se retira au monastère de Montecassino au XIIe siècle, devenant plus tard son abbé. A la mort de son fils unique, Ascanio, il enleva la soutane et prit femme, les enfants nés de ce mariage s'appelaient Abbé ou Abbé. Ils s'installèrent en Sicile à la suite de Frédéric III de Sicile en 1299 et possédèrent divers fiefs : Favignana, Carini, Ghibellina, Ucria, Cefalù, Badia, Cudia etc. Un Troyen était sénateur de Palerme dans les années 1499 et 1500 ; un Gabriel épousa Isabelle Ventimiglia, héritière de la baronnie d'Ucria dont il, au nom marital, demanda et obtint confirmation le 16 juillet
