Secondo Inveges nobiliario ecc. questa famiglia proviene da Lucca, trapiantata in Palermo da un certo Dulcio il 1237 sotto l'imperatore Federico II. Il Villabianca dice che nel 1431 un Giovanni corrottamente Patella per 40 mila fiorini d'oro comprò da uno de' Moncada la contea di Cammarata; acquistò le baronie o feudi di Pietra e Cefalà, e secondo il Musica Sicilia Nobilis una metà della gabella de' frutti di Palermo. Occupò le prime cariche dello stato, imparentò con la nobilissima famiglia dei Chiaramonte, e suo figlio Federico il 1451 venne investito dl titolo di conte di Cammarata, come altresì jure aereditario materno di quell'altro della contea di Modica. Dopo varie successioni il detto stato di Cammarata passò ad una Margherita A. e Branciforte, che sposò lo zio Conte Federico Branciforte capitan generale. Ma poichè questi nemico del vicerè Ugo Moncada trovossi implicato nella cospirazione di Leofante ed Imperatore nel secolo XV,
