Modenese family enrolled in the Conservatory class since the century. XVI which gave the famous painters Niccolò (dec. 1571) and Ercole (dec.1613), by a Pietro di Paolo from Castelnuovo di Sotto in the Reggiano, a ducal aromatarium, who died on January 30, 1702. His nephew Pietro di Bernardino (1693-1762) was a skilled mathematician and plumber and also a good literate; another Pietro (1768-1842), grandson of the latter, was also a distinguished mathematician and plumber, councilor of state of Duke Francesco IV for public economics and education, and he received from his sovereign for his merits the title of count transmissible to all male descendants (Decree 10 July 1818) with the right to associate the surname of Marescotti with his own.
