Familia modenesa inscrita en la clase Conservatorio desde el siglo. XVI que dio a los famosos pintores Niccolò (dic. 1571) y Ercole (dec.1613), por un Pietro di Paolo de Castelnuovo di Sotto en el Reggiano, un aromatarium ducal, que murió el 30 de enero de 1702. Su sobrino Pietro di Bernardino (1693-1762) era un experto matemático y fontanero y también un buen alfabetizado; otro Pietro (1768-1842), nieto de este último, también fue un distinguido matemático y fontanero, consejero de estado del duque Francesco IV para economía pública y educación, y recibió de su soberano por sus méritos título de cuenta transmisible a todos los descendientes masculinos (Decreto 10 de julio de 1818) con el derecho de asociar el apellido de Marescotti con el suyo.
