Oriunda da Brescia (although presumed to be from Pistoia), settled in the late 14th century in the city of Pesaro. Antonio secretary of Galeazzo Malatesta (Malatesta, Guelph feudal family, already known in the VII century. He had the dominion of Rimini between 1200 and 1500. Among the best known members, Malatesta II (d. 1312), who managed to conquer the Romagna together with his sons Gianciotto (m. 1304) and Malatestino (m. 1317); Gianciotto, known as "Lo Sciancato", in 1283-84 killed his wife Francesca da Polenta and his brother Paolo, guilty of adultery; the episode is remembered by Dante (Inf., V, 73 et seq.); Sigismondo Pandolfo (1417-1468), lord of Fano, Rimini and Senigallia, was defeated in 1463 by the militias of Pope Pius II and Francesco Sforza, losing all the possessions, except Rimini; in 1464 he fought against the Turks in Morea.
