Oriunda da Brescia (aunque se presume que es de Pistoia), se estableció a fines del siglo XIV en la ciudad de Pesaro. Antonio secretario de Galeazzo Malatesta (Malatesta, familia feudal Guelph, ya conocida en el siglo VII. Tuvo el dominio de Rimini entre 1200 y 1500. Entre los miembros más conocidos, Malatesta II (m. 1312), que logró conquistar el Romagna junto con sus hijos Gianciotto (m. 1304) y Malatestino (m. 1317); Gianciotto, conocido como "Lo Sciancato", en 1283-84 mató a su esposa Francesca da Polenta y a su hermano Paolo, culpables de adulterio; el El episodio es recordado por Dante (Inf., V, 73 y ss.); Sigismondo Pandolfo (1417-1468), señor de Fano, Rimini y Senigallia, fue derrotado en 1463 por las milicias del papa Pío II y Francesco Sforza, perdiendo todo las posesiones, excepto Rimini; en 1464 luchó contra los turcos en Morea. Tenía la iglesia de San Francesco, llamada Tempio
