L'origine de cette famille est des plus certaines, mais elle se trouve extrêmement embrouillée à cause d'un grand nombre de membres qu'il n'est pas possible de relier entre eux par une filiation commune et régulière. Nous transcrirons les personnages les plus marquants tels que nous les avons rencontrés dans les sources bibliographiques consultées: Gautier, chevalier, seigneur de la Ville-Gestin, paroisse de Dolo, mentionné dans une charte de Saint-Aubin des Bois en 1210; Jean vivant en 1513, épouse Guillemette du Fournet. On trouve Guillaume, dit l'Abbé croisé en 1248 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois); Jean, dit Petit-Jean, chevalier de l'Hermine en 1454; Alain auditeur des comptes en 1458; Pierre, écuyer sous l'amiral d'Annebaut à l'expédition de Piémont en 1539, puis lieutenant du capitaine Blancfossé.
