La famiglia Abrugnale è una dell'antiche, e nobili di Messina, il primo che di lei ritroviamo, e Salvitto il quale acquistò il Ponte di Agrigento, percioche fù il detto Ponte anticamente de' Chiaromontani che in quei tumulti Baronali il Rè Federico lo concesse a Bartolomeo, ed Odoardo Saglinpepe cavalieri Messinesi padre, e figlio, li quali lo concessero al predetto Salvitto Abrugnale le loro creditore, il quale l'hebbe confirmato nel 1363. costui morì senza prole, onde sua moglie Andriana passò alle seconde nozze con Salvatore di Granodiorgio gentilhuomo di quella Città e gli portò in dote detto Ponte, che l'hebbe poi confirmato dal Rè Martino nel 1391. ch'ambedui lo dotaro ad Angela loro figlia casata con Simone Turtureto nel 1416. Salvitto Abrugnale fu figlio di Cristofaro Abrugnale, fratello del Salvitto prenarrato Baron del Ponte, al Salvitto segui Cristofaro che fù Senatore da Messima nel 1452. insieme con Tuccio d'Humano, Nicolò Romano,
