Famiglia originata da Guglianello A. passato in Firenze da Brescia, nel 1160, imperocché, essendo guelfo, abbandonava la patria per isfuggire le persecuzioni di Federico Barbarossa. Vuolsi aver preso nome di A. per essere dedito al commercio dell'acciaio. Questa famiglia è venuta nel regno due volte. Ha signoreggiato Firenze prima della casa medici. Vuolsi che da questa famiglia fosse derivata la famiglia Ferrero di Piemonte e Sicilia. Ha goduta nobiltà nella città di Napoli, Al Seggio Capuano, Firenze e Melfi. Il ramo di Nicolò, stadio sublime del suo casato, si spense, come pure il ramo venuto in regno nel 1440. Fu ricevuta nell'ordine di Malta nel 1447.
