Antica e nobile famiglia piemontese da Acqui fregiata dei titoli di Conti di Olmo, Baroni di Retorto e Portanova, Signori di Montabone e Consignori di Canellipropagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia ove si incontrano alcune variazioni cognominali quali Acquesano, Acquosana o Acquesana. Discendente degli antichi conti dell'Acquesano, ha memorie sicure dal principio del secolo XV con l'investitura di Montabone (15 marzo 1419). Carlo Maria è il primo barone di Retorto e Portanova, per investitura del 19 novembre 1748. Suo fratello Bartolomeo dà luogo alla piccola linea di Olmo, come padre di Vittorio che trovasi qualificato conte di Olmo in carte del tempo.
